I have a limited number of ring kits available. Includes everything for making rings apart from CA glue. Because CA glue has a short shelf-life it is not included in the kit, and should be purchased at the time you intend to make the rings.
Kit Includes :
• 150/220/320/400/600 grit Sandpaper • Wax Paper
• 3 Species of Wood Veneer. Enough to make many rings.
• Brass Power • Knife with extra blades
So what ring size are you? Well the easiest way
to find out is to use a ring sizer available at most
jewelry stores. Another way is to measure your
finger by wrapping a thin strip of paper around
your finger and marking the overlap. Then
measure the paper and compare it to the
“circumference” column in the chart on this page
(thanks to Wikipedia 😉
Women’s most common ring sizes: 5 through 8.
Men’s most common ring sizes: 8 through 12.
Ring Making Tips
Obviously, the video is going to show you every-
thing, but I’ll still give a few details here.
I usually start with a veneer strip about 5/8” wide
(1.5cm). How long you ask? About 12” (30cm)
should be plenty long enough for a ring. The
thickness is about 1/32” (1mm).
I use a microwave in the video and I have never
had a problem. Having said that; some people
report that microwaving water to a
boil can be dangerous. So I recommend just
boiling water on the stove to be safe. Even hot
tap water is enough to curl the wood.
Use a liquid glue and not a Gel. The liquid will
seep deep into the wood fibers and make the
ring incredibly strong & waterproof.
What exactly is Superglue anyway?
If you want to get technical you can call it
cyanoacrylate (or CA Glue for short). CA bonds
with the help of humidity and hardens quickly
when trapped between two surfaces. Pressing
the parts harder against each other will make the
glue cure instantly.
And now to freak you out:
CA Glue Health Warning!
- Choose a well-ventilated area and avoid breathing in
the fumes or allowing the fumes to rise into your eyes.
Good ventilation is a must. - Wear gloves when working with superglue. Latex,
Rubber or Nitrile are sometimes recommended but
double-check with the glue manufacturer. - Always try to avoid contact with your skin.
To remove CA glue from your skin, soak the skin in
warm soapy water. Acetone or fingernail polish
remover may also help. Be patient and NEVER pull the
area apart. Gently wiggle the area to allow the soapy
water or acetone to penetrate the bond. After soaking,
the adhesive should come off. - Avoid contact with Cotton and Wool as the reaction
may cause a fire.
